The Google Mini is extremely user friendly because people are already doing Google searches. They know, understand and are familiar with the product so they will have no problem applying that knowledge to using the google mini on your website.

At By Wild web site design we have installed, configured and operated the Google Mini.

One of the trickier things By Wild has done was integrate the Google Mini search engine into this site due to the multi-colour options available here. You will see, if you do a search on the site, the search engine has been integrated to look exactly the same as the site itself. This has been done for all three of the site colour options so you should see the search results in the same colour you have chosen the site to be in. If you change the site colour and do another search you will notice the search results will come up in the new colour you have chosen.

Research suggests that, if a customer does not find what they are looking for on a website within 30 seconds, they will tend to move on and look elsewhere.  The faster a customer can search your site the more time they have to find what they want before they get tired of looking.

How will a Mini become an investment.

The Google Mini can be incorporated into your web site, your intranet, or both. Your customers will love it on your web site as it will give useful results to their queries in a fraction of a second. This increases your chances of a sale. Management loves it because employees can find the document or file they need in no time at all leaving them more time to get on with their work. This reduces wasted employee time.

The main advantage of the Google Mini is its speed. It can save your employees and your customers a lot of time. The Google Mini can index over 200 different file types including all the common file types used in business these days (plus some we have never heard of). The mini search usually only takes a fraction of a second which means your employees will have access to the file they need in no time at all. It searches across whole networks and can be modified to only show certain results to certain people. This allows you to protect sensitive content on your system.

 Your Database & the Google Mini

The Google Mini does not support databases in their native format. If you need that you will need to consider getting its big brother - the Google Search Appliance. This does not, however, mean you can't use the Google Mini. It is possible to tweak your website so the Google Mini will be able to index your database and give you the results you need.

Once the Google Mini has indexed your data bases it will find what you want even if you only enter part of the search term. For example the phone numbers you constantly look up, prices on your products, employee sick days, if you keep the data in a database you can search for it all in less than a second with minimal effort.

With your own Google Mini search engine you will also be able to modify the results of a keyword search to suit your needs. By Wild has modified it's own Google Mini to give you an example of this. I have forced this term to give users a result that will bring them back to the page you are now on.

One of the nice things about the Google Mini is the ability to upgrade from 50,000 to 100,000 or even 300,000 documents without purchasing extra machines. You purchase a new licence which you insert into your existing Mini and it upgrades itself.
